Which DPI should I pick?
- 300 DPI - photo prints, brochures, reading distance < 60cm. Sharp at arm's length. 1280x720 is 4.27x2.40in.
- 150 DPI - posters, banners, viewing beyond 1m. Larger but slightly softer. 8.5x4.8in.
- 72 DPI - screen proof only; prints 17.8x10.0in but visibly pixelated.
- 600 DPI - fine art or small text overlays; 2.13x1.20in, doubles file size.
Scaling tip - when pixels are short
Need a larger print than the table allows? Do not upscale blindly. Instead halve the DPI (300 -> 150) to double inches, or pick a larger master (e.g. 2560x1440) and keep DPI at 300. Upscaling adds no real detail - viewing distance hides it for posters but not for hand-held prints.
